CERT Meeting Announcement

CERT Program

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Canby Fire District is the sponsoring agency for the Canby area CERT program. Since 2001 more than two hundred community members have been trained as CERT members. These members live in our community and are assigned to pre-arraigned teams based on their location. Each neighborhood team has a team leader to help manage the CERT members.

The Fire District is committed to the CERT program. The Canby area CERT is facilitated by a steering committee made up from past CERT program graduates. Each year CERT members received quarterly refresher training, and every other year Canby Fire District sponsors new team member training. View the Mission, Vision and Values of Canby CERT

Preparedness:

Disasters can happen anywhere and at any time. Darrell Royal, former University of Texas football coach made famous the quote “Good luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” Recent disasters have demonstrated how much communities count on their firefighters and other emergency responders to keep them safe and protected, however, large-scale catastrophes have also revealed the strains placed on our emergency personnel during times of crisis. Today, more than ever, first responders and local residents must work together to be better prepared.
