A Career in the Fire Service

Today's firefighters are truly multipurpose professionals in addition to responding to fires. The varied and exciting duties of today’s firefighter include responding to a wide array of emergencies that include motor vehicle crashes, industrial accidents, specialty rescues, hazardous materials spills, and public assistance calls of all types. They also are active within the community conducting fire prevention inspections, hosting public education activities and events, and conducting target hazard walk-through assessments on key facilities. They also train daily, staying current with all fire, rescue, and EMS disciplines.

If you possess the commitment and dedication to serve a very important role in the community, then the fire service might be right for you! Careers in the fire service are exciting, rewarding, and challenging.

What to expect during the testing process

Canby Fire District utilizes an assessment center for establishing its eligibility list for entry-level firefighter. Candidates are rigorously tested through a series of oral and technical assessments. The goal of the assessment center is for Canby Fire District to evaluate candidates based on a series of dimensions that are considered job critical.

Once a job offer has been made an accepted the candidate will then precede to the physical agility, which includes a series of job simulations that will test stamina, strength, and overall fitness.
