District Award 2007

In 2007 Canby Fire District was honored at the Oregon Fire Service Meritorious Awards Ceremony by being recognized as the Fire District of the Year

The district was recognized for the following accomplishments:

  • Hosted 2500 community members during our Open House
  • Responded to nearly 2000 alarms, which included fired, medical emergencies, traffic accidents and public assists.
  • Privided the primary ambulance transportation to our community
  • Provided 12 lead Cardiac Care to all cardiac patients
  • Passed our operating levy with an amazing 71% voter approval
  • Participated in the MDA Fill the boot, raising $2700.00
  • Fundraised for a family who lost all their possessions in a fire. Efforts included having motorhome donated for the family.
  • Captain Val Codino was honored by Marquis Care for his exceptional level of service.
  • Partnered with Consumer Products Safety Commission and conducted in-house Safety Inspections, targeting elderly homes in the community.
  • Developed a school based Fire and Life Safety Curriculum where 100% of all student grades K through 5 were educated, and completed a take home assignment.
  • Establed a benevolent foundation, and hosted the first fundraising event, which raised nearly $5000.

Responded to several major incidents including:

  • House fire with a major burn victim
  • House fire where a citizen helped save an entrapped elderly occupant
  • Responded to the first major Biodiesel Fire in the Nation, received National News
  • Responded and helped resuscitate a newborn infant, received National News
  • Responded to a Heat Stroke Patient which received National News
  • Responded and helped extricate a Cow that fell in a well, received National News
  • Responded to a car crash where a 4 year-old child was gravely injured and Trapped inside the wheel well
  • Aknowledged the Citizens who rescued the girl with a Citizen Heroic Award
  • Responded to a home that was filled with Natural Gas. The home exploded with 3 firefighters inside and two outside. Four firefighters were transported to the hospital, one with burn injuries. Three of the four would likely have been killed had they not been following strict policy and safety practices, including their full protective clothing.
