Volunteer Opportunities
Canby Fire District offers a variety of volunteer opportunities with different levels of time committment and training components. Please see below for more information on these positions:
Our office is occasionally in need of volunteers to help with basic office duties and coverage during high demand work times. If you are interested in receiving volunteer hours, please contact our main office.

Our Chaplains group consists of volunteers who respond on scene when they are needed to support families, our first responders, and patients.
To obtain more information about our Chaplain group, please call us at 503-266-5851 or stop by the main station.
Canby Fire volunteers get hands-on experience with both fire and emergency medical services. Our volunteers meet weekly for training and respond on calls during their designated shifts.

CERT is essential for the community and serves to train and protect by teaching about prevention such as fire extinguishers, coordinating during natural disasters, improving communication throughout the community, and much more! Fill out an application today if you’re interested in being part of a CERT group or call for questions.

“This is an all volunteer group of Amateur Radio Communications Operators that serve the fire district, the county, and the state in radio voice and digital communications in the case of a major event. It’s possible that the first line of communications for first responders (fire, police, EMS) and other supported agencies could fail due to wildfires, earthquakes, and weather-related incidents. Amateur radio operators can be in service and on the air in a very short timeframe and establish communications for these agencies. Canby Fire is the lead agency for the Canby area. We will provide communications to the county, the state and federal government as directed by the authorities. If you are a licensed ham operator in the Canby area, or would like to become one, contact us for details on how YOU can become part of your communities emergency response team. Fill out an application if you’re interested in joining this team or call with questions.” – Jerry Burn, radio operator

Our Rehab group responds to fires where they monitor the overall health of crews and provide food, water, and a cooling area.

This is a program that operates on the same shift schedule as our paid crews and provides for reimbursement for school programs and classes related to Fire Science or Emergency Medical. This provides interns with shift experience and hands-on learning that can be applied to future fire service careers.
For those interested in responding to fires on an as-needed basis but don’t necessarily have the time commitment to volunteer as a combat firefighter, a water tender driver/operator position may be the perfect fit for you!

Applications for volunteers are being accepted year round. If you’re interested in applying, please fill out an application and drop it off at the fire station. Interviews will be held for all eligible applicants. Please use the below application for any volunteer (non-paid) position. Applications can be dropped off at the main station or mailed (221 South Pine Street, Canby, OR 97013).
